Agoura Hills
Agoura Hills was named after Frenchman Pierre Agoure, a settler who was one of Conejo Valley’s most successful sheep and cattle farmers in the early 1900s. The area eventually blossomed into a popular scenic backdrop for motion pictures and was even called “Picture City” for awhile. The “Agoure” name was chosen by the post office in 1928 and the final “e” was changed to an “a” for ease of pronunciation.

Today, the City of Agoura Hills prides itself on having the advantages of big-city life while maintaining a friendly, rural, small-town atmosphere. Countless equestrian properties dot the lush landscape and many frequent the lovely nearby trails. Visitors and residents alike also appreciate the area’s easy access to the picturesque Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area, the world’s largest urban national park.
