Exploring Parks in Westlake Village
November 13, 2017
Westlake Village is a beautiful and vibrant community in the heart of the Conejo Valley that’s surrounded by a rural landscape that includes horse and hiking trails as well as the Santa Monica Mountains, providing you with a large variety of parks and recreational centers to visit when you wish to spend time in the pleasant Southern California weather.
When you’ve purchased a home and settled down in this planned community, you will have access to a plethora of shopping and entertainment options, close proximity to downtown Los Angeles and other hubs of shopping and entertainment. This is a great community to purchase a home in due to the strong growth market and inventory of spectacular homes for you to choose from. Whether you’re looking to get outdoors and enjoy some activities and sunshine, looking for a place to have a picnic, or a family friendly atmosphere, these are some of our favorite parks in Westlake Village.
Berniece Bennett Park
The Berniece Bennett Park is a spacious 4.9-acre park that’s situated within the First Neighborhood in Westlake Village. When you’re planning a trip to this park, it’s open from 6:00AM-10:00PM every day and 6:00AM-10:30PM in the months of June-September. There’s no way to reserve the park for a party or some other type of event, but it does serve as the central location for the Saturday in the Park concert series as well as several other special events that are held by the surrounding community.
This park contains everything you would expect to find in a large city park, such as a basketball court with lights that allow you to play when it gets dark, a walking path for exercise and relaxation, half a dozen picnic tables, a playground where your children can play, and a dog station, which is perfect if you’re a dog owner and are searching for a place to take your beloved pet.
The playground comes with a unique play area where the structure is made to appear like a fire truck and includes monkey bars and a play steering wheel. There’s also a vast grassy area where you can throw the Frisbee with your dog or play sports with your friends (frisbee golf anyone?). Several restrooms and drinking fountains are available throughout the park as well.
Triunfo Creek Park
Triunfo Creek Park is one of the premier parks in Westlake Village, providing you with a vast 600 acres of trails, meadows, and woodlands for you to explore, exercise, or enjoy the scenery in. This park is known for playing host to some rare species of wildflowers that are in full bloom during the cool spring months.
The main aspect of this park is the Pentachaeta Trail, which is home to the Pentachaeta lyonii, an endangered flower that can only be found in Southern California, which is why you’ll want to bring your camera. At the trailhead, you’ll find an informational kiosk that offers a comprehensive pamphlet that pinpoints where you can find other unusual flowers throughout the park, making it a very unique destination among other parks in Westlake Village. This place also provides you with a great view of Westlake Village as well as the Westlake Reservoir. The trails in the Triunfo Creek Park extend to an elevation of a little more than 550 ft., which means that you’ll want to bring a lot of water and possibly some food if you’re considering hiking a large portion of the trails within.
The park is free and open to visitors at all times of the year, but the recommended time to visit is during the late winter and early spring months.
Three Springs Park
Three Springs Park is a scenic 3-acre park in the Three Springs neighborhood that provides numerous amenities you can use and activities to partake in.
The playground area is spacious, providing your children with several slides and tunnels to explore as well as numerous swings. A fitness trail lines the outer perimeters of this park, which is a great place to exercise or enjoy the scenery, while the included picnic pavilion offers numerous picnic tables as well as a barbecue where you can prepare your lunch or dinner.
There are also two sizable basketball courts with lights included for night play, allowing you to engage in some friendly competition. As is the case with many other parks in Westlake Village, it’s open from 6:00AM-10:00PM on a daily basis save for the months from June-September when the park is open from 6:00AM-10:30PM.
South Shore Hills Park
South Shore Hills Park is a hilly and picturesque 4-acre park just nearby the Westlake Lake that offers a variety of fun activities to partake in, such as a basketball court that’s lighted from sunset to 10:00PM. As is the case with all other amenities in the South Shore Hills Park, the court is first come, first serve, which means that you’ll want to visit at a less crowded time of the day if you want to be able to play some basketball with your friends or family.
The playground includes some exciting slides and jungle gyms that your children will definitely enjoy, while a separate picnic area is outfitted with two picnic tables and a couple of barbecue grills that you can use when cooking for the entire party.
When you plan on visiting this park, you should be aware of the fact that it’s open from 7:00AM-10:00PM.
Evenstar Park is among the more popular parks in Westlake Village, due in large part to the fact that the majority of it was recently renovated and refurbished, including the playground areas and baseball field. Aside from the large open turf that is soft enough to play sports like football and soccer, this park is also equipped with a softball field where you can play both baseball and softball, and bleacher seats are included for anyone who wants to watch.
The playground is expansive and one of the larger ones among the parks in Westlake Village, providing your children with numerous slides, small climbable walls, and tunnels that they can spend hours playing in.
When you’re thinking of taking a break, you’ll find a shaded picnic area with three large tables and three grills, which is more than enough to accommodate anyone who wishes to cook.
As with the South Shore Hills Park, you can visit any day in the year from 7:00AM-10:00PM.
Triunfo Park is another one of the largest community parks in Westlake Village and is also among the most popular, as it’s outfitted with a wide array of fun and exciting activities for people of all ages.
This park plays host to numerous community events throughout the year, mostly due to the fact that it’s situated across many acres of land. If you wish to hold a party or sporting event at Triunfo Park, both the athletic fields and softball fields can be reserved. If you enjoy playing sports, Triunfo Park is definitely the place to be, as it provides access to one baseball field that’s accompanied by bleacher seating for 120, one outdoor basketball court, two soccer fields, a softball field, a volleyball court on sand, and three hard-surface tennis courts, allowing you to play all kinds of sports.
A massive playground area can be found near the restrooms, providing your children with all of the slides and swings they need. The picnic pavilion is lined with 11 tables as well as one grill that can be used on a first come, first serve basis.
When visiting the park, it’s open from 7:00AM-10:00PM.
Russell Park is located beside the Westlake Hills Elementary School and offers a substantial amount of shade throughout its 7-acre grounds, making it a great park to visit on those hot summer days. Along with a substantial amount of open fields to play or relax in, you’ll also be able to make use of volleyball court that comes complete with sand.
This is a popular park for dog owners, as the open fields offer a great place for dogs to stretch their legs and get some exercise.
As explained in one of our previous articles, Westlake Village is one of the best communities in the Conejo Valley to bring your furry friend with a number of pet-friendly restaurants and activities within the city limits.
The main portion of Russell Park is its large playground area, which is used mainly by children who attend Westlake Hills Elementary. This playground offers slides, small walls to climb, and several swings that your child will enjoy playing in, while you can relax at one the several benches and tables situated around the playground area.
If you’ve brought a picnic and are spending the day at the park, the picnic structure comes with six long tables and two grills. When planning a trip to this park, it’s open from 7:00AM-10:00PM, although it should be noted that the volleyball court isn’t lit, so schedule your visit earlier in the day if you plan to play this sport.
Russell Ranch Park
Located just nearby the Renaissance neighborhood in Westlake Village, the Russell Ranch Park is a spacious 4.3-acre park that’s open from dusk to dawn. Although this park doesn’t host any events throughout the year, the various sports fields within can be reserved for local youth organizations who wish to practice and play at the park. Full restroom and drinking fountain amenities are on hand here, the latter of which is helpful if you forgot to take a water bottle.
If you enjoy playing soccer, Russell Ranch Park is outfitted with two full-sized soccer fields where you can play with friends or practice with teammates from your school or team. Aside from these soccer fields, a large softball field is also available to you, offering a place to play both softball and baseball whenever you want, although every field at this park is available to whoever gets their first, so keep that in mind when making your schedule.
If you’re bringing along your children to the park, you’ll find a playground on the premises, complete with jungle gyms and a wide array of different types of slides.
